This reorganization is the most significant re-structuring of how USPS will manage their business in 30 years. This will create a lot of trepidation in the field, and one example is changing/closing of Areas and 17 Districts and all the employees are out of a job.
The first step that they announced is a VERA, (Voluntary Early Retirement) which comes with financial penalties if the employees are not Social Security eligible. The next shoe to drop is a RIF (Reduction in Force) which is how the Federal Government downsizes.
Needless to say there will be distractions in the field. HQ will also be having similar staffing adjustments, and maybe more important for us, is changing responsibilities on who we work with on different issues; so we will keep you updated as those are announced.
